Before you even consider recycling the plastic fruit container, be sure to remove it from the store. The next step, after cleaning it, is to fill a large bowl or the sink with water. Then, add a couple of tablespoons of distilled vinegar. The next step is to add the fruit to the water and let it soak for another ten to fifteen minutes. The goal is to eliminate any bacteria or mold that may have accumulated on the fruit, as this could accelerate its spoilage.

After soaking the fruit in water and vinegar for a while, remove it, place it in a colander, and rinse it with cold water to remove any remaining liquid. Dry the fruit by covering it with paper towels or a kitchen towel and set it aside. Place the fruit in glass jars and seal them tightly once it is completely dry. This method is the most effective for extending the shelf life of fruit, especially berries, which are particularly susceptible to mold and pathogens.
