SOS! My 7-year-old son got bitten by this. It looks terrifying. I showed the picture to my sister-in-law, who lives nearby, and she said she found similar bugs in her house too. Any ideas what they could be? Details are in the comments below.

Earwigs

A Facebook user, Alicia Alexander, shared a successful method to eliminate earwigs. By placing a shallow bowl filled with half a cup of olive oil in your yard or on your deck, you can effectively trap these insects. They are attracted to the oil but cannot escape once inside.

This method proved to be highly effective for Alicia, as demonstrated by the number of earwigs collected in her bowl after just 24 and 36 hours.

While they are generally harmless, a significant presence could indicate rotting wood in your home, as they are attracted to it. Checking for and addressing wood rot is advisable. However, earwigs entering your home for warmth is normal and not usually a cause for concern.
