he rain was falling softly the night she was left behind.

She was only three years old when a small car stopped near the entrance of an old orphanage. A woman stepped out, holding a little girl wrapped in a thin pink blanket. The child was half asleep, clutching a small stuffed rabbit. The woman placed her gently on the steps, kissed her forehead, and whispered through tears, “Forgive me.”

Then the car disappeared into the darkness.
